In 100 Years, None of This Will Matter

April 20, 2025

Have you ever stopped to think about how fleeting our existence truly is? In 100 years, none of this will matter. The homes we fight so hard to pay off, the cars we spend a fortune on, the possessions we guard so closely — they will all belong to strangers. The people who live in our homes, walk our hallways, and tend to our gardens will have no idea who we were or what we sacrificed.

In 100 Years, None of This Will Matter

What Will You Be Remembered For?

It’s sobering to imagine that the car you loved so much might one day be scrapped, or sit gathering dust in a collector’s garage. The photographs you so carefully curated might end up in a forgotten box, and your name might only exist in faded ink on an old document, or as a caption beneath a portrait hanging in someone’s study — if you’re lucky.

Ask yourself: how many of us even know the name of our grandfather’s father? Or what he dreamed of? Or how he laughed? It’s not that we weren’t loved or didn’t matter — it’s that time, relentless and unstoppable, moves on. After we’re gone, we may be remembered for a few years, maybe even a generation, but eventually, even our memories will disappear into history.

And yet, we live our lives as if these material things are eternal. We stress, strive, and struggle to gain more — more success, more wealth, more status. But what if we paused for just a moment to reflect on the truth?

If we did, we might realize how misguided our priorities are. We might stop chasing the illusion of permanence in things and start creating permanence in moments. What if we gave those hugs we keep putting off? What if we took the time to walk with our loved ones, to laugh a little louder, to play like kids again?

These are the real treasures

The moments we choose to be present, to show love, to live fully — those are what will echo across time, even if no one remembers our names. Joy, kindness, laughter, and connection: these are the legacy worth leaving behind.

There is still time

Time to realign our hearts. Time to give more of ourselves. Time to live a life that isn’t just remembered, but deeply felt while we are here.

Because in 100 years, none of this will matter — but how we made people feel just might.
