The Shift from Me to We: How One Mindset Change Transformed My Life

April 07, 2025

One of the greatest shifts you’ll ever make in life is moving from “Me” to “We.” I didn’t learn this in a classroom or a book — I learned it the hard way.

First, my wife left me, and I got divorced.
Then I resigned from my coaching position.
Then I fell into a pit of negativity and depression.

At my lowest point, I asked myself, Why am I so miserable?

The answer was humbling: I was focused on me — my success, my goals, my story. I had made my life all about what I could get instead of what I could give.

That’s when everything changed.

Coach Zirpolo and I reconnected, and I was given another chance to coach — this time as the JV Lacrosse Coach at Cox High School. I knew if I wanted a different result, I had to make a different choice.

So, I flipped the script. I turned the “M” upside down and made it a “W.”

I started making “We” my new mantra. I began looking for ways to love, serve, and care for others — not because I wanted something in return, but because it was the right thing to do.

Not long after, people started asking me:

“How did you get all these amazing coaches to say yes to working with you again?”

The answer is simple: I made one powerful shift — from Me to We.

I prioritized relationships. I invested time and energy without any agenda. I supported others in their goals. I listened, encouraged, and showed up — over and over again.

I wasn’t keeping score. I wasn’t thinking about how these people might help me later.

But here’s what happens when you serve selflessly for long enough:
People show up for you, too.

The shift from Me to We isn’t about instant wins or quick fixes. It’s not about playing the short game.

It’s about becoming someone better — more grounded, more joyful, and ultimately, more impactful.

This shift has also made me a better parent. As I grew in this mindset, I saw my kids grow, too. Our relationships deepened. Our connection strengthened.

So if you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or just not where you want to be — ask yourself if it’s time for your own shift.

From Me to We.

Lead Positive,
Coach H
